How We Work

Cheong Chambers uses a structured process for new enquiries and agreed engagements.

Step 1

Initial Enquiry

Please provide a brief description of the matter, the parties involved, the current status and any urgent deadline. An initial enquiry does not create a solicitor-client relationship. Step 2

Conflict Check

The firm checks for conflicts of interest before substantive discussion. Further information may be requested for this purpose. The firm may be unable to assist where a conflict is identified.
Step 3

Preliminary Review and Consultation

After conflict clearance, any preliminary consultation or document review is arranged on a separately agreed written scope and fee basis, subject to availability. A preliminary consultation does not include further representation unless separately agreed.
Step 4

Scope and Fee Quotation

Where the firm is able to assist, the principal provides a written proposal setting out the work, fees, anticipated disbursements and relevant terms.

Written Engagement

Further substantive work begins once the firm has accepted the engagement in writing, the scope and fees have been confirmed, and any required payment on account has

Matter Management & Client Update

The matter is conducted under the principal’s direct supervision and personal involvement, including legal strategy, key documents and client advice. Clients are informed of material developments and decisions requiring instructions.
Step 7

Completion and Closing Update

Upon completion of the agreed scope or conclusion of the engagement, the firm provides a closing update and final account, where appropriate.
Note:

The firm reserves the right to decline or cease to act on a matter where the scope becomes unclear, instructions are inconsistent with the legal and factual position, or the conditions of the engagement letter are not met.
